Point to one thing, then open the whole cupboard
Use Ovo je when you identify one person or thing: Ovo je šolja. Use Ovo su when you introduce two or more: Ovo su šolje. The demonstrative ovo stays the same in this identifying pattern; the verb changes from singular je to plural su.
Do not translate ovo word for word as “this” in every plural sentence. English naturally says “These are…,” while Serbian still says Ovo su…. Treat each expression as a complete frame.

The surprising plural hidden in vrata
Vrata is grammatically plural even when it refers to a single doorway, so Serbian says Ovo su vrata. The same happens with naočare (glasses): Ovo su moje naočare. Let the Serbian grammar lead instead of copying the English number.
Sort the market stall
Look around your room and point to one object, then a group. Say five alternating pairs without writing: Ovo je… Ovo su… Only after speaking should you check the plural endings.

- Make plural: Ovo je pas.
- Choose je or su: Ovo ___ naočare.
- Write in Cyrillic: Ovo su moji prijatelji.
