Children redefine the family tree

Kefalica is funny because children build explanations from partial knowledge. Their answers may be factually wrong yet linguistically revealing: they show which word, sound or family relationship guided the child.

Family terms are precise. Stric is the father’s brother, ujak the mother’s brother, tetka a parent’s sister, while strina is the wife of a stric. Unuk and unuka mark the grandchild’s gender.

From stric and strina to a strong character

Keep one child’s definition and retell its hidden logic; humour is excellent training for meaning beyond vocabulary lists.
