Detective stories give advanced Serbian learners a genuine reason to read carefully, gather vocabulary and follow clues. This lesson prepares you for Misterija otrovanog piva (The Mystery of the Poisoned Beer) by exploring Serbian wine regions—an apparently separate topic that may prove useful when the investigation begins.

Prepare for a Serbian detective mystery

If you enjoyed solving detective stories while learning Serbian, this new mystery will give you another opportunity to follow clues through the language. The planned e-books—similar in format to this example—will guide you from one video lesson to the next: each discovery opens another part of the case.

Before starting Misterija otrovanog piva, watch the first video and focus on vinski regioni Srbije (Serbian wine regions). Useful words for the investigation include misterija (mystery), otrovano pivo (poisoned beer), trag (clue), osumnjičeni (suspect), vinograd (vineyard) and vinarija (winery).

Extra listening and Cyrillic task

Watch the second video, which is separate from the mystery, and try to identify the wine region shown. Listen for familiar place names and key words, then practise reading the accompanying Serbian Cyrillic text. We will discuss your answer in the next lesson.
