If you carefully followed Facebook statuses during Easter time in Serbia, you've probably noticed three different greetings:
- Hristos Vaskrese
- Hristos Vaskrse
- Hristos Voskrese
Three online spellings conceal two established pairs
In contemporary Serbian, the established exchange is Hristos vaskrse!—Vaistinu vaskrse! The form vaskrse is an aorist meaning “rose” or “was resurrected.” The traditional Church Slavonic pair is Hristos voskrese!—Voistinu voskrese!
Hristos vaskrese is frequently encountered, especially in informal writing, but learners need a dependable model. Choose either the Serbian pair with va- or the Church Slavonic pair with vo-, and keep the greeting and response in the same tradition rather than mixing their openings.

Divide a page into Serbian and Church Slavonic. Copy one complete greeting-and-response pair into each column, read both aloud, then cover the replies and answer immediately when a partner chooses either greeting.
