Serbian Language Podcast - A2/B1 Level

Serbian Language Podcast

There are quite a few Youtube videos which can be used for practicing your listening comprehension skills. One of them is  MarkaŽvala Youtube channel with short interviews with ordinary people. In their videos you can hear authentic, colloquial language spoken in Belgrade. Today I want to share with you a video in which  passersby are asked to show what they HAVE=IMAJU in their pockets.

How to practice Serbian with Learn Serbian Podcast?

  1. Let's listen to the video (only first two minutes) and try to watch and see what people usually have in their pockets. If you would like to be prepared for the items one can find in their pockets, check the vocabulary list below the video.
  2. Listen to the video for the second time and jot down what you hear (and see)
  3. After listening to it twice, you can check your answers in the comment below.
  4. Finally, you can do the follow up exercise :)

  1. Džep = pocket / Džepovi = pockets / u džepu = in a pocket / u džepovima = in pockets
  2. Ključ = key // ključevi = keys
  3. pare = novac = lova (sleng) = money
  4. sitne pare = sitniš = coins/change
  5. mobilni = mobile phone
  6. dokumenti = documents
  7. dinari = Dinars

  9. telefon = telephone
  10. ništa više = nothing more
  11. naočare = glasses
  12. spajalica = paper click

Answer key:

Danas utvrđujemo šta ljudi imaju PO svojim džepovima. Gospođo, šta imate u džepovima?

Pare? A jel imate još nešto?
Ključevi i sitne pare.
Ovaj je od parkinga, vrata, ovaj (otvara) bravu, a ovaj (otvara) sanduče, znači nisam izlapela.
Imam osamsto dinara, devetsto moram da vratim. Imam ID karticu, ličnu kartu, imam telefon (they are now talking about the broken mobile phone and money) ...
A u ovom drugom, sad sam stavila naočare... a spajalice, zašto spajalice?
Dva mobilna telefona i jedan novčanik, to je sve... šta ste očekivali?
Telefoni, dva komada i novčanik.
Kako smete vi to pitati? (Na koji... na) kakav način vi to prilazite?
Sveska, upaljač i slušalice. Imam još nešto, evo... ( a sveska... a marker?) bukvalno ništa, to je to.
A vi ste hteli neke informacije?
Penzioner, nema love, samo ima mobilni telefon da se izgubim...

Marina has been a fantastic teacher. She has taken me from knowing absolutely no Serbian and brought me to a level where I am excited to live and thrive in a country where they speak Serbian. I have recommended her and will continue to pass her name along for other students who are interested in learning. I look forward to continuing to keep in touch with her. Katie, USA, 2014
I have been working with Marina twice a week through Udemy since late August and LOVE her and all of her videos and classroom work through Udemy. It is so helpful to be able to log in at any time during the day or night and listen and watch her videos. She breaks each lesson down very well and makes it simple to learn and to interact and practice on my own before our classtime. I will highly recommend Marina to other friends as well as Udemy!
